Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy) ,
Thank you for your question and welcome to Just answer.
You are correct, the almond shaped structures under the tongue on the floor of your mouth are the salivary ducts for the submandibular salivary glands. It sounds like one of the ducts is inflamed. The tiny holes are the exit point of the ducts into the mouth and are where the saliva comes out. If the redness does not go away in a few more days, you should have your dentist take a look at the situation. Sometimes these ducts can form salivary ducts stones, which can plug up the ducts and cause the inflammation you see. Normally these are quite small and work their way out by themselves. But again, have you dentist take a look if the redness remains and/or if the area becomes painful.
I hope this answers your question.
If you have any concerns regarding this issue that I have not addressed, please let me know and I will get back to you with more information.
Sincerely, George McKee DDS
