I have braces and soon will be having them taken off, the problem is that I have 3 small gaps in between my top teeth that were not there before, my ortho say s it's a bit of gum loss, I went to see a periodontist to look at my gums and he says they are very healthy and sees no gum problems he thinks that spaces are because of the pressure the brace put on by gums but when I have my braces taken off it will go back o normal, I dont see how that will happen, I dont want veneers or bonding what other options are there for coveruing spaces if my gaps wont close? Do gums grow?

Hi! I agree with the periodontist. The small gaps you see may very well be because of the braces and yes gums do grow if they are healthy. It is unhealthy diseased gums that recede and become puffy, red and bleed. Gums are living tissue and if the braces have pushed that back, which is not uncommon, with 1-2 months of you braces being off, the spaces will be gone. Maybe even less. Just remember to floss and brush gently and wear your retainer. You will probably have a stunning smile.   If you have any other questions, please ask.

Hi Dina, I've seen several cases like this. Often the bands around the teeth pushed the gums back and the patient was so good about hygiene that the gums set back. Once the braces came off, the gums came back. I would not placate to you, if I though your ortho was wrong I would say so. For the few dollars I get for helping you I would not lie to you or deceive you, I do this to help people that have a real concern and are worried. Once you get into a retainer, the gums come back almost right away. Please don't worry, moving the teeth can alter the appearance for awhile, but if will come back.
